Nipple discharge and its Homoeopathic Medicine




A nipple discharge when spontaneous, persistent and unrelated to lactation is considered abnormal.

Any significant nipple discharge must be thoroughly evaluated with the following information:

Nature of discharge (milky, serous or bloody)

Unilateral or bilateral

From a single duct or multiple ducts

Association of any mass in the breast

History of any drug intake 

Premenopausal or post menopausal


Nipple discharge may be due benign conditions or due to breast cancer (20%)

Common cause of nipple discharge

Physiological ( lactation)

Pregnancy

Oral contraceptives

Inappropriate

Intraductal cancer

Malignancy

Infective

Fibrocystic disease


Diagnosis

Careful history taking, clinical examination and mammography should be done for woman aged 35years.

Ductoscopy is used to visualise the individual discharging duct and biopsy can be taken under local anesthesia.
